Black Friday Madness

Take Me To Post Comment Form

So the nation's largest retailers are aiming to goose sales next week by opening at twelve midnight Thanksgiving night. Please don't reward this idiocy. They will be open all day long.

The people who have no choice in the matter are the store employees. They already work extended holiday hours under high pressure from militantly aggressive shoppers. They sacrifice their own family holidays for the rest of us, most of whom take them for granted year-round. Let's not abuse them further by denying them a decent nights' holiday sleep.

The people who lose most are the locally-owned small businesses that cannot afford to be open around the clock. Big-box retailers already have the advantage in purchasing power, pricing, and advertising budgets. Now they want to make certain they capture your business before our neighbors can even open their doors. It is uncivilized.

Do yourself and your family a favor and sleep through Thanksgiving night. Do your community a favor and shop locally this Christmas season.
